The original Equestrian Knight Design was the winning entry of a public competition to create a new emblem for Burberry, circa 1901.
The Equestrian Knight
The knight represents honour, the lance reform and the shield protection. The banner that reads ‘Prorsum’ translates from Latin to ‘Forwards’. Together, the Equestrian Knight Design represents protection and our forward-looking spirit.
The EKD has undergone several transformations over the years including an iteration in an oak leaf crest, reflecting the brand’s creative evolution.
The emblem has been used to capture our spirit of innovation across our stores, campaigns and collections.
Under Daniel Lee’s creative direction, the refreshed symbol remains a significant source of inspiration – with elements of the Equestrian Knight Design referenced across prints, bag hardware and jewellery.
